This city is located on the east coast of Florida, next to Melbourne, 40 minutes south of Kennedy Space Center, and slightly over an hour from various attractions and the airport in Orlando, Florida. Convenient airplane travel is available through Melbourne International Airport, located approximately 15 minutes from the fiber production facility.
Organization:
Company Function:
Fiber Science, Inc. converts thermoplastic polymers into synthetic fibers through a melt spun process, appropriate for conventional polymers such as polyester, nylon and polyolefins. Using this process, a variety of other, less conventional polymers can be converted into fibers. We bring into practice polymer extrusion and fiber conversion processes for specific applications. From fiber and process development, through production (with capacity of 3 million pounds per year) Fiber Science, Inc. can handle innovative and dynamic projects.
Company History:
Fiber Science, Inc. was started in 1991 for the purpose of producing and commercializing special and novel fibers. Our focus is on the technology required to convert polymers into fibers, and to pursue the production of those fibers. Normally, our products are a continuous, fully oriented yarn. A continuous unoriented or partially oriented yarn can be produced for various downstream processes including staple (drawn, crimped and cut fiber) applications. In addition, we produce parts through a thermoforming process using non-woven fiber feed stock. Fiber Science, Inc. designs and builds its own equipment. This capability allows us to respond to the polymer and to develop the appropriate process for the desired product.
